How Certificates Work

Number 1

Choose your term

Consider when you expect to need the money and select a certificate term that fits your timeline.

Number 2

Let your savings grow

Your deposit earns dividends during the certificate term. Certificates of one year or longer generally compound dividends quarterly, while certificates shorter than one year pay dividends at maturity.

Number 3

Plan for maturity

We will notify you at least 10 days before your certificate matures. Unless you provide different instructions, the certificate automatically renews at the rate available at that time.

Saving for a specific goal?

A certificate may be helpful when you have money that you do not expect to need immediately and want a predictable savings timeline.

Consider using one for:

  • A future vehicle or home purchase
  • Education expenses
  • A planned trip or major event
  • Long-term savings
  • Money you want to keep separate from everyday spending

Because early withdrawals may result in a penalty, consider keeping emergency savings in a more accessible account.
