Watch for fake Heritage South texts
You may receive a text about a purchase or transfer you do not recognize. The message may ask you to reply, click a link, sign in to your account, or share a one-time security code.
Do not click the link. Open our official mobile app or type our website address directly into your browser. You can also call us at (931) 680-1400 to confirm whether the message is real.
We will never send you a link to cancel a transfer or ask for your online account login information.

Give us your PIN
We will never ask for your debit card number and PIN to verify who you are.
Read us a security code
Never share the one-time security code sent to your phone when you sign in. A request for this code may be an attempt to access your account.
Accept an unusual refund
We will never promise to refund your money through Cash App, Venmo, gift cards, or an account-to-account transfer.
Common scams and how they work
You receive a text about a purchase or transfer you do not recognize. After you reply, you may get a call from someone claiming to work in a fraud department.
You may then receive a fake sign-in link or a request for your password or security code. Do not respond. Check your account through our official app or website and call us directly.
You receive an unexpected email or text asking you to click a link, open an attachment, verify account information, or respond to an urgent warning.
Scammers use these messages to steal passwords, security codes, and personal information. Avoid unfamiliar links and attachments. If a message seems to be from Heritage South, open our official app or website instead of using the link provided.
Someone sends you a check and asks you to deposit it, then send some of the money back, pay another person, or return an “overpayment.”
The money may appear in your account before the check is discovered to be fake. If it is returned, you could be responsible for the money you already sent. Be cautious anytime someone asks you to move money after depositing a check they gave you.
Someone tells you to send money through a payment app, wire transfer, gift card, or another account to fix a problem, protect your money, or complete a purchase.
Moving money does not make it safer. Once funds are sent, they can be difficult or impossible to recover. Stop and contact us directly before sending money if something feels unusual or rushed.
You receive a call or message saying a family member is in trouble and needs money right away. The scammer may pretend to be your relative, a police officer, lawyer, or another person helping them.
Do not let urgency pressure you into sending money. Hang up and contact your family member directly using a number you already know.
Scammers can attach hidden equipment to ATMs, gas pumps, and other card readers to steal your card information and PIN.
Before using a card reader, check for loose, damaged, or unusual-looking parts. Cover the keypad when entering your PIN, and review your account regularly for transactions you do not recognize.

Traveling outside Tennessee?

Four signs you may be dealing with a scam
An unexpected identity claim
A caller or sender may claim to represent us, a government agency, a utility company, law enforcement, or someone you know. A familiar name or phone number on your caller ID does not prove the message or call is real.
A sudden problem
You may hear that your account has been compromised, a bill is overdue, a family member is in trouble, or legal action is about to begin.
Pressure to act
You may be told not to hang up, speak with anyone else, or take time to think. Pressure and urgency are common scam tactics.
An unusual payment request
Be cautious when you are asked to pay through gift cards, cryptocurrency, cash, a wire transfer, or a payment app. Never transfer money to “protect” it.
